Historically Native American territory, Oklahoma’s name derives from the Choctaw words “okla” and “humma,” meaning “red people.” Oklahoma’s initial residents and those who arrived after the Land Rush of 1889 were likely in awe of the state’s natural scenery, which features mountain ranges, prairies, forests, and mesas. Today, most of Oklahoma’s population lives in the state’s two largest cities: Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

With a wide variety of historic styles and modern designs, Oklahoma’s homes have withstood the test of time. Sprawling mansions of Oklahoma’s former oil barons, Spanish mission houses, and Art Deco architecture are some of the state’s most popular sights.

Oklahoma homeowners can find talented contractors who specialize in remodeling and renovating existing historical homes as well as custom building new residences. This list ranks the best contractors in Oklahoma based on awards, press recognition, reviews, and customer ratings.
