Its best details include Travertine tiles, heated floors, and high ceilings. The project won an Award of Merit in Sustainable Design from the American Institute of Architects. 

Rowland+Broughton Architecture

Rowland+Broughton Architecture works across Aspen and services its nearby areas. The firm specializes in every design aspect and is especially noted for its urban and residential architecture. Since its inception, it has worked on over 350 projects. These projects include custom homes and various commercial, hospitality, interior design, and master planning projects. The company has been in business since 2003 and has secured an excellent reputation for its high-end designs and command of mountain home architecture.

Featured above is an excellent embodiment of the firm’s talent and expertise. This home, spanning over 10,750 square feet, appeared on the pages of Aspen Magazine and Colorado Homes & Lifestyles. It sits on the base of the Aspen Highlands Ski area, in the middle of a forest of aspen and fir trees. 

Centre Sky Architecture

Center Sky commits itself to the highest standards and is a leader in mountain architecture. It is also highly regarded for its sustainable designs and specialization in custom residential, ranch resort, and commercial projects. It has had the opportunity to work in the private communities of the Yellowstone Club and Spanish Peaks. At the firm’s helm is its principal architect, Jamie Daugaard. He earned his master’s degree in architecture from Montana State University and is an active American Institute of Architects member. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional. Located in Big Sky, Montana, this home sits next to a ski mountain and provides its owners with breathtaking views of its surrounding areas. For this project, the owner tasked the team with working on several outdoor living areas, large patios, decks, and vegetated roofs. 

Berglund Architects

Founded in 2004, Berglund Architects works out of its office in Edwards. It specializes in custom single-family homes, multi-family residential work, and mixed-use commercial projects. Its excellent command of the local architectural vernacular characterizes it as among the Vail Valley’s best firms. The firm’s services cover interior design, tenant finish design, architectural design guidelines, master planning, and envisioning work. Since its establishment, it has designed eight LEED-certified projects and often promotes sustainability efforts in its homes.

The chosen project above is located in Vail. The firm’s team had to work with over 8,100 square feet of space for this home. It opted for a distinct roof, insulated exteriors, natural stone, and clear cedar siding. The home features 14 bathrooms, eight fireplaces, kitchens, and wet bars.

Suman Architects services the entirety of Vail and its surrounding areas. It is among Vail’s most notable firms and has featured its work in publications like Luxe Interiors + Design. Michael Suman leads the firm, ensuring the company benefits from his insight and experience in each project. He established the firm in 2004 and specializes in custom residential and light commercial designs. Under his leadership, the company offers clients personalized design and service packages. 

The chosen project featured here is located in Summit County. This stunning home features exposed bricks and tall floor-to-ceiling windows. Some other great details include its modern interiors and open-concept floor plan. It perfectly exemplifies the firm’s commitment to tailoring homes to its clients’ unique preferences and precision in every aspect of design and construction. 

Vertical Arts Architecture

Vertical Arts is a fully integrated architecture and interior design firm. It uses a multi-disciplinary approach and has offices in Steamboat Springs, Vail, and Denver. The Vertical Arts team comprises a talented and experienced group of eighteen professionals known for their attentiveness to detail and commitment to quality. Brandt Vanderbosch, a principal known for his impeccable eye for design and customer-centric approach, leads Vertical Arts Architecture. 

Showcased here is one of the firm’s most impressive projects. Labeled in its portfolio as the “Steamboat Eco Home,” this home was rendered with a simple yet modern theme. Its exterior materials can withstand harsh environmental elements and contain several solar panels. The home interior has three garage bays, a mudroom, a home office, and several bedrooms. 

Michael J.K. Olsen Architects

Michael J.K. Olsen Architects specializes in custom single-family homes, multi-family, commercial, and extensive remodeling projects. It can take on any project regardless of size or scale, and a wide variety of modern and contemporary spaces marks its portfolio. In business since 1994, the firm is renowned for its practical yet creative approach to design solutions.

Equinox Architecture

Equinox Architecture works out of its office in Breckenridge and dedicates its practice to timeless architectural themes. It is the product of the vision of Leader and Founder Robert Kennedy Dickinson. He received his visual arts degree from Brown University in 1991 and coursework at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he studied architecture, sculpture, and industrial design. Under his leadership, the firm has completed countless projects across Colorado’s Central Rockies. 

The chosen project is among the company’s most stunning projects. Equinox Architecture designed this project for a local entrepreneur located in Blue River. Sitting on a heavily wooded site by the side of a mountain, it showcases a rustic mining style coupled with a contemporary roof line.
