The list below highlights the top nine multifamily contractors in San Antonio, Texas. For this ranking, we considered general contractors that have completed multi-residential construction projects in the city. All of these builders have their own unique expertise that made them stand out from the rest. While others are focused on providing luxury residential options to investors, some have dedicated their services to affordable housing and mid-range real estate assets for their partners. We also looked at their list of awards related to the multifamily market, the value of their projects, and the availability of building amenities in these properties. Other factors, including the companies’ industry affiliations, individual revenues, and most importantly, their commitment towards the use of sustainable and green building methods, were also taken into consideration.

If you are thinking about building a multifamily project, we recommend checking each builder’s license with the local licensing board, speaking to past clients, and using our bidding system to get competitive quotes from at least 3 contractors. Getting multiple bids is the best way to ensure you get a fair price and that bids include the complete scope of work.

Through the efficient leadership of its principal, Mark Gross, the Associated Builders Association (ABC) recognized the firm’s quality of work and awarded it the organization’s distinguished Excellence in Construction Awards in 2003.

As a leader in green construction, the company follows green building practices throughout a project’s lifecycle. From the initial design to construction and operations, the firm follows methods that are aimed to construct energy and cost-efficient projects with high quality and longevity.

8) Duke Companies

13740 Midway 804, Dallas, TX 75244

Duke Companies is one of the few builders in the region that focuses solely on multifamily construction. Its strong relationship with its local lenders, investors, landowners, and developers can be attributed to the company’s accommodating business practices. For instance, the company carefully creates investment and building programs that suit the structural needs as well as the economic requirements of its clients.

The firm is a family-owned and privately-held business, founded in 1973. Even in its early years, it accomplished much for the multi-unit industry. G.W. Mitchell is one of the oldest general contractors in the region. In the years that followed, the firm completed constructions for many of the city’s landmarks, such as the La Villita Assembly Building, Laurie Auditorium, and Alamo Cement Quarry, among others. These projects earned the company multiple recognitions from the ABC, AGC, and the American Subcontractors Association (ASA).

Today, Bill Mitchell heads the family-owned company’s third generation of builders. His company has a full team of experts with the training and manpower to handle a more diverse market, including educational, healthcare, religious, civic, retail, and industry projects. However, residential construction will always remain at the heart of the almost century-old company. From a beginning building modest San Antonio homes, the company grew to become one of the top residential contractors in the region and built high-end projects that are of over $76 million in value.

One of its multifamily construction works is the SOJO Crossing, a 51,000-square foot townhome community that was completed in 2018.
