Crossland Construction Company, Inc.

3252 Roanoke Rd, Kansas City, MO 64111

Crossland Construction Company, Inc. is an award-winning firm that has completed landmark projects in the city since 1977. Many of its works are recognized by the ABC and featured annually in ENR’s “best of” rankings. The facility is an energy-efficient luxury apartment community that brings a new level of urban living to Kansas City.

This concrete-based structure overlooks the Missouri River.  The complex is to be the largest Passive House structure on the globe, using approximately 90% less energy than an average building of similar size.  The apartments have views of the riverfront and downtown skyline. Large, triple-glazed windows and 10’6 ceilings provide ample light and fresh air. Rooftop gardens and terraces, a saltwater pool, an interior courtyard, a club room with a teaching kitchen, conference room, fitness center, pet area, and more all serve as extensions of each residence.

Its work for the commercial sector is often celebrated for its merging of classic and modern building techniques.

In recent years, for instance, the company was commissioned to build the Yards Apartments. A five-story, 232-unit, multifamily complex was built using wood-frame construction. It features a modern design with an open sky deck area on the top floor that overlooks downtown Kansas City, complete with outdoor TVs and planter boxes that create an oasis in the middle of the city. Other amenities include an open courtyard in the center of the complex, pool, patio with a fire pit, grill area, dog park, community entertainment kitchen, outdoor covered lounge, and a vineyard. The building’s aesthetics were designed to complement the surrounding historic buildings rather than compete with them.

520 W Pennway St. Suite #100, Kansas City, MO 64108

Centric led the construction and adaptive reuse work for a multifamily client shown below. The original building was three-level paper storage and press for the Kansas City Star newspaper. It’s a stout cast concrete frame structure that was brick clad with thin ribbon windows above eye level. Centric converted the building into 38 residential units both within the existing structure and added two floors of new construction.

Terrace on Walnut weaves together the new and existing geometries with materials that represent their function: medium gray metal panel signifies the frame of new construction, anodized aluminum identifies the living unit divisions, and concrete structure cladding and existing brick is painted a dark gray to ground the building. To better integrate with the Crossroads Art District, the vertical entry stair has a custom art installation on all floors, and the stair is boldly painted a bright yellow drawn from the details in the art.

Since its establishment in 2010, the firm has also completed stunning interiors and structures for a wide array of industries. Some of these projects are celebrated by the industry and featured in regional and local publications, including the Kansas City Business Journal
