Plano – safe, affordable, and progressive – is one of the best cities to reside in Texas. Forbes magazine named it one of the safest cities in the nation, and it has one of the lowest unemployment rates, perhaps because a number of corporations – such as Pizza Hut, JCPenney, and FedEx – have headquarters there. The website livability.com named Plano one of the best cities to retire as Plano combines all of these advantages with warm Texas weather.

The cost of living is slightly above the U.S. average, but Plano is still cheaper than its neighbor Dallas. The housing rates are a bit steep in Plano; its thriving corporate industry has populated the town with elegant, contemporary homes. These modern homes, of course, require maintenance and care. Finding the perfect contractor for a dream home is a tedious process, given the number of firms in the area.

These 15 contractors are award winners with impressive, lengthy résumés of successfully completed projects. The list also tells you who is doing what, and the neighborhood where they are doing it. With this list in hand, you have 15 solid leads so that you can build or remodel your home,  and enjoy all that Plano has to offer.

If you are thinking about doing a construction project, we recommend checking each builder’s license with the local licensing board, speaking to past clients, and using our bidding system to get competitive quotes from at least 3 contractors. Getting multiple bids is the best way to ensure you get a fair price and that bids include the complete scope of work.

Servigon Construction

15264 Mountain View Ln., Frisco, TX 75035

An architecture by training, Eddie Servigon established Servigon Construction because he enjoyed the challenge of remodeling with the grain of the home’s current aesthetic. After all, if a colonial-style home needs a kitchen remodel, then a contemporary design will be aesthetically disruptive.  Eddie believes that every room of the home must complement the next; he seeks to bring balance and harmony to your residence.

In an article by Home Upgrades Magazine, Eddie recalled that the firm’s renovation projects often come one after another; he would suggest simple changes to some rooms of the house, then his intrigued clients would eventually ask for a grander remodel.

The firm uses the existing elements of the home as focal points. They’ve used a worn-down brick wall of a Mid-Century Home, for instance, by painting the walls white and using simple traditional interiors. In addition to its basic remodeling services, Servigon Construction is also capable of historic home renovations and custom interiors.

Montgomery Contracting

1116 Stratford Dr., Richardson, TX 75080

Montgomery Contracting is a family-owned firm founded by Mark Montgomery, a seasoned remodeler with over 15 years of experience. Now his daughter Katherine is following in his footsteps because she was recently brought on board as the firm’s project manager.

Its kitchen remodel designs are a mix of colonial and southwestern; the architecture of their walls are very formal and symmetrical, but it’s accented by rustic wood beams. Montgomery Contracting has won the 2016 Contractor of the Year for their residential kitchens and their southwestern style additions also won them a 2011 Contractor of the Year award.

HomeCorp

14330 Midway Rd., Farmers Branch, TX 75244

Sandy Tabacinic established HomeCorp in 2009 because she was tired of working for a male-dominated industry. Sandy’s eye for design enables her to create one-of-a-kind designs for homeowners in North Dallas. One of the firm’s most memorable projects is a lake house renovation that has a wine cellar addition. Sandy put walnut wood cabinets in the cellar for a classic look, but the backlighting and glass pivot door entry gave it a modern touch.

Sandy – and HomeCorp generally – are known for being building experts in North Dallas. Sandy often appears on CBS 11, Fox 4, and Good Morning Texas to share home remodeling tips to viewers across the state. And HomeCorp has had a lot of exposure in publications like Park Cities People Magazine, Collin County Business Press, and DFW Style Daily Magazine.

Tribute Kitchen and Bath

14425 Tradition Trail, Plano, TX 5093

Tribute Kitchen and Bath has only been in the industry for three years, but their founder, John Voigt, has dedicated 15 years to mastering kitchen and bathroom remodeling. John makes sure that he oversees each of the firm’s projects; he has developed a system of design that incorporates functionality and current trends into every renovation.

The firm brings luxury into bathroom remodels by using marble tiles that are reminiscent of a spa, and their floating cabinets are accented by LED lights that illuminate the compartments of the cabinet. The firm likes using marble countertops for their kitchen remodels, which give their Craftsman-style designs that added touch of elegance. Their remodels have garnered them awards such as a Contractor of the Year (CoTY) award and an Associates, Remodelers, and Contractors (ARC) Award.

Pedigo Construction

1100 Summit Ave. Suite #108, Plano, TX 75074

Marine Veteran Colin W. Pedigo founded Pedigo Construction to become Plano’s go-to luxury bathroom and kitchen remodeler. The firm’s remodels bring comfortable luxury to every home they work on. Colin’s polished projects have landed him on Remodeler Magazine’s “Top 40 under 40” list in 2016. The firm’s recent awards include winning a Contractor of the Year award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry three times in a row and the 2016 Consumer’s Choice Award. Pedigo Construction has not only won the respect of Plano residents but has served Texas’s most famous resident, former president George Bush.

The Blake Kitchen is the firm’s most recent award-winning project. Honed quartzite was used as accents for the modern kitchen. The hardwood flooring adds an element of warmth to the cool palate, a standard for transitional styling.

In addition to bathroom and kitchen remodeling, the firm is capable of more idiosyncratic home additions like laundry rooms and wine cellars. The firm believes every room of the house must work like a fine-tuned machine for the homeowner. So every one of their projects has unique features: floor tiles powered by carbonic floor heaters or hanging cabinets that are highlighted by LED under lighting.

Von Gillern Contracting

5824 Wavertree Ln., Plano, TX 75093

After spending more than 20 years of his life in the computer industry, Jack von Gillern decided to pursue his passion for building and woodworking by founding his own company in 2003. Remodeling might be Jack’s second career, but it has brought him nothing but success. Jack is a very active member of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) since he has served on the Board of Directors and has won eight Contractor of the Year awards.

The firm is versatile. The majority of Von Gillern Contracting’s designs are classic southwestern or colonial style remodels, but their award-winning designs are often modern. One of their most impressive remodels is an award-winning outdoor addition; it included a pool that was lined with adobe bricks, providing a warm contrast to the white facade and interior of the family room.

BRY-JO Roofing and Remodeling

681 N Plano Rd. #119,  Richardson, TX 75081

The firm’s website features remodeling tips and helpful guidelines that will save the homeowner money. BRY-JO Roofing and Remodeling also offer ADA remodeling, a service that specifically caters to homeowners who are disabled or have a disabled resident in the household. These remodels ensure that a room is safe for wheelchairs, and easily accessible for anyone who has difficulty in walking.

PO Box 2870, Grapevine, TX 76099

The firm was established by Kevin Key who has over 25 years of experience in home building. He established Key Residential, Ltd. in the Fall of 2010. Previously, Kevin was an Owner Partner of Key Renovations, which opened in January 2004. The Certified Graduate Remodeler and Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist and his team are experts in historical renovation. DFW Improved

9741 Preston Rd. Suite #106, Plano, TX 75024

DFW Improved is a full service general contracting firm specializing in one-of-a-kind remodels and additions. The firm claims its projects are unique because a lot of them are bespoke designs that not many contractors can accommodate, such as multi-generational spaces. Multi-generational spaces are for families who are living with aging members of the family who want their own distinct space. DFW Improved turns a home into a multi-generational space by installing separate entrances, lower-level living areas, and private spaces. When you’re done, your home will improve its resale value: every space will be American Disabilities Act compliant.

Most of the addition projects that the firm undertakes are floor plans that are specifically tailored for the client. They’ve made a garage workshop that houses vintage cars and a transitional media room that has its own home theatre. Their wide variety of designs have garnered them several distinctions, including placing 86th in the Top 500 Home Remodelers in the Nation for 2018 list by Qualified Remodeler Magazine. They’ve also won a 2012 ARC Award, the Dallas Market Leader Award 2011, and in 2012 they were included in Remodeling Magazine’s Remodeling 550 list.

Kasper Custom Remodeling

17630 Davenport Rd. Suite #113, Dallas, TX 75252

Award-winning firm Kasper Custom Remodeling simplifies renovation by coming up with creative solutions. Their spaces are innovative because they bring bold play to spaces that are often de-emphasized. In a powder bath, they used black wallpaper, employing abstract lines as a focal point. They enclosed attached display cases to the walls that looked like mood lighting from afar. They received and fulfilled unique requests such as art niches that also serve as reading nooks, and cave-like wine cellars that are accented by water walls. Kasper Custom Remodeling’s unique designs have caught the attention of national publications such as Better Homes and Gardens’ Beautiful Kitchens Magazine and Dream Kitchens & Baths Magazine. They’ve won six ARC awards, two Texas Association Builders’ Star Awards, and they’ve been part of Remodeling Magazine’s Top 550 firms from 2015 to 2018 and Qualified Remodeler Magazine’s Top 500 Largest Remodeling Firms in the Nation from 2017 to 2018.

The Dallas-based remodeler is dedicated to transforming any kind of renovation into a creative project that only their trusted builders could envision.

Hatfield Builders and Remodelers

701 E Plano Pkwy. Suite #400, Plano, Texas 75074

Established by Chad Hatfield in 2005, Hatfield Builders and Remodelers is a Plano-based professional residential design and construction firm. The firm consists of a number of award-winning industry professionals. Their founder, for instance, was part of Professional Remodeler Magazine’s 2014 “40 under 40.” One of their top designers, Amanda Jones, won two American Society of Interior Designers Design Ovation awards in 2018 and one in 2019. The Director of Office Operations and Marketing, Diane Hatfield, was part of Professional Remodeler Magazine’s 2017 “40 under 40” as well.

Hatfield Builders and Remodelers is a full-service design and remodeling firm who places an emphasis on honesty and proper planning. They take pride in using their proven process to take clients through their design phase and then through the construction phase, finalizing everything during the warranty period.  The firm takes time to fully design and plan the projects before they let their crew start construction.

Hatfield Builders and Remodelers does not just offer simple remodeling services, they offer complete room reconfiguration. The term may sound intimidating: a room reconfiguration is simply repurposing a room so that it is more functional for the homeowner’s current lifestyle. Your daughter went to college? Her room is reconfigured into a home gym. The goal is to transform unused space and make the entire home functional for daily use.

Most of the projects are catered for traditional family homes in a fun, colorful ranch style. Their contemporary designs have won 17 Contractor of the Year Awards from The Greater Dallas Chapter of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). The firm also has 20 ARC Awards from the Dallas Home Builders Association.

USI Design & Remodeling

2100 N Hwy. 360 Ste. #1603, Grand Prairie, TX 75050

Two of the most seasoned principals in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Chris Chumbley and Gordon Zoellner, have been remodeling homes since 1983. During the ‘90s, they noticed that product expansions made renovations simpler and more generic. They decided to establish USI Design & Remodeling in 1996 to integrate a more thoughtful design process. They take a classic approach towards design; their remodels range from contemporary to farmhouse. All of their projects are polished and elegant so it should come as no surprise that their designs are often featured in publications such as D Home Magazine, House and Home Magazine, Dallas/Fort Worth House & Home Magazine and Professional Remodeler Magazine. Its founders are also accomplished past presidents of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). The firm has won 23 local and national awards for excellence in remodeling design, including the 2018 Remodeler of the Year from Texas Association of Builders.

An article from House and Home Magazine showcases the USI Design & Remodeling by showing how the firm managed to redefine a complicated bathroom floor plan. The LaFebres’ master bath used to have five unhinged doors that were unnecessary and occupied too much space. The firm simplified the room by keeping two swing doors that led to the bedroom and gracefully led into a walk-in closet as well. USI Design & Remodeling’s designs are in demand because they offer functional elegance that welcomes any homeowner or guest into the home.
