The village of Tarrytown sits on the eastern bank of the Hudson River in Greenburgh, one of several river towns in New York State. These towns blend urban and suburban life in beautiful ways. There are beautiful sights where the Tappan Zee Bridge crosses the river; the historic districts, meanwhile, feature 19th and 20th-century architecture.

If you are part of this bustling community or are considering joining it, here are some of the best general contractors in Tarrytown who can help you as you build your home. These firms have plenty of experience building for the landscape of Westchester and the surrounding area.

ZANO Developments

75 Virginia Road, White Plains NY 10603

The vaulted ceiling over the great room of this home in Mahopac further opens up its bright interior. Marble tops the prep spaces of the L-shaped kitchen, framed by a gray backsplash that matches the cabinets in the base of the center island. White wood windows and French doors frame views of the woodsy surroundings. A floor-to-ceiling fireplace wall warms the living room, but still leaves plenty of space to mount the TV. The soft neutrals continue in the more private spaces. The master bedroom sits beneath a dramatic vaulted ceiling and provides a view of the outdoors through a double-hung window. Beige marble lines the walls of the glass-doored rainshower area. The toilet is tucked behind a white panel door. Custom shelves provide storage space in the walk-in closet.

This full home renovation was provided by Zano Developments. Joe Zanzano and Anthony Marchionne founded the firm to serve the area of Westchester in 2019, consistently looking for innovative ways to build high-quality homes for their clients.

Gebicco Inc.

866 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510

CEO Jareck Gebicki leads Gebicco as it continues to deliver old-world European craftsmanship to Westchester. For over 15 years, Gebicco has brought a personalized approach to projects big and small. The firm has earned many referrals and repeat clients who appreciate the different options Gebicki would lay out to see their visions come to life

Gebicko completely renovated this home in Bedford Hills. The new front porch features a wide-covered sitting area flanking the bright red main doors. Inside, a spacious mudroom sits to the right of the stairs, while the rustic motif dining room sits to the left, illuminated by a metal chandelier. Wood beams anchor the white vaulted ceilings atop the shiplap living room wall. Behind it, more eat-in space lines the wood top of the kitchen island, which matches the prep countertops that meet the white tile backsplash around the range. French sliding doors lead out to the back deck. Faded gray wood cabinets accentuate the master bedroom, which houses a dual vanity and white-tile glass-doored rainshower master bath. The children’s rooms reflect their personalities: rainbow sparkles for her, a Lightning McQueen bed frame and a baseball-stitch wall for him. They also get a play and study area in the basement, which also houses a family room and home gym.

Black Diamond Contracting Corp.

35 High Street Hastings on Hudson, NY 10706

Keeping its original layout, what was once a dated wood wall living room was transformed with a sleek neutral interior brought to life by fine accents. An elegant black coats the walls, setting a sharp contrast with the traditional off-white molded-mantel fireplace. An ornate glass chandelier hangs above the dark wood coffee table. A brown velvet couch and gray herringbone-upholstered armchair provide comfortable places to relax. Custom shelves flank the broad double-hung windows and French doors lead to the rest of the first-floor spaces.

The room was updated by Black Diamond Contracting, which has been serving Westchester since 1992. Sean Connaughton leads the fully in-house staff of professional tradesmen in performing complete home remodels, restorations, gut renovations, custom interior design, and other structural and mechanical overhauls in the county. Their design-build process allows clients to collaborate closely with the team to ensure the highest quality of work delivered on time and on budget.

Justino Contracting Inc.

650 Halstead Avenue, Mamaroneck, NY 10543

Justino Contracting renovated this home in White Plains with a clean white interior atop dark wood floors. Herringbone backsplash meets the marble countertops and wood cabinets frame the stainless steel appliances in the galley kitchen. The flooring shifts to hex tiles beneath the recessed tub marble vanity bath. A second bathroom brings back the herringbone tiles on the floor of the glass-doored rainshower area, while an intricate black pattern coats the floor tiles in the beadboard-wall powder room.

President Wilson Justino provides leadership for the firm he and his brother founded in 1999. He remains hands-on in every job the company takes in New York and Connecticut. Homeowners in these areas have come to trust Justino for its exceptional interior and exterior renovation services as well as its general contracting expertise. The firm is fueled by a commitment to really listening to its clients’ visions; its work sweetened by a knack for always staying on top of schedules. And they make sure to leave the job site clean at the end of every workday.

Prime Home Improvements

370 Elwood Avenue, Suite 210, Hawthorne, NY 10532

Multiple lounge areas provide comfy spots to relax in this White Plains home remodel by Prime Home Improvements. The formal living room forms an open layout with the kitchen, warmed by a white wood-mantel marble fireplace. Some space to dine sits in the corner, as well as along the marble-top center kitchen island. White cabinets and gray and white tile backsplash complement the stainless steel fixtures. A flat-screen TV hangs above the ribbon fireplace in the wood wall that anchors the media room. The adults can have some refreshments by the skylit wet bar while watching the kids in the sunlit playroom. Window walls and French doors provide access to the outdoor area and open up the structure throughout.

President Gino Ciuffetelli leads a team that has been serving Westchester since 1974. The firm specializes in complete home remodeling and has built for over 15,000 customers. While it has grown into a large company over the years, Prime continues to uphold values common to family-owned and operated businesses—high-quality work, ethics, and integrity—in a successful bid to achieve 100% customer satisfaction.

Sunrise Building & Remodeling Inc

510 N State Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510

Voted Best Builder in Westchester Magazine’s Best of Westchester 2019 Awards, Sunrise Building & Remodeling has been serving the county since 1986. The firm has earned the trust of many homeowners in Westchester who have referred the company to their friends for its wealth of construction knowledge and practical experience coupled with a high level of professionalism and timely service. Leading the team is President Eric Messer, who also established its affiliate Sunrise Solar Solutions in 2009 after training in Residential Photovoltaic Systems Installation and Maintenance at the Farmingdale State University Solar Institute. Messer also serves as trustee and chairman of the Westchester Builders Institute Remodelers Council.

Sunrise renovated this 1930s Cape Cod home in Ossining that provides a flowing great room on the first floor. Skylights, broad windows, and French doors to the deck brighten up the wood-beamed vaulted ceiling kitchen. Black quartz lines the white-cabinet prep spaces and center island. On the opposite side is a corner breakfast nook with bench seating. A ribbon fireplace wall warms the adjacent family room. The cozy space features multiple sitting areas that also connect to the deck through sliding doors. Sunrise also remodeled the ¾ bath and installed tempered glass doors sealing the toilet and shower areas.

Amodeo Contracting Inc

54 Main St. Suite 205, Tarrytown, NY 10591

Amodeo Contracting first started working on decks, trim, finish carpentry, and other smaller projects in 1999. President Damian Amodeo began in the field as a carpenter’s apprentice and decided to open his own business at the age of 22. The firm went on to undertake larger projects such as home additions, major renovations, kitchen and bathroom remodels, and custom millwork. Today, Amodeo works on high-end residential projects such as custom homes and whole house remodels throughout Westchester County and beyond with the same commitment to seeing clients’ visions through.

Amodeo remodeled this bathroom in Peekskill in an ocean blue theme. The tone is mixed with white in the glass tiles that serve as a backsplash to the alcove rainshower as well as the white granite-top double vanity, where the sea seems to meet the shore in the light wood cabinets below. The highlight of this room is the oval freestanding tub that glows with soft blue LED lights installed inside. A second shower is lined by a paler blue in its glass walls, matching the dresser-vanity that sits outside.

Grasso Development Corp

22 Purchase Street, Suite 22F, Rye, NY 10580

Grasso Development Corp tore down the original ranch-style home that stood on this Rye site and built this 6,500-square-foot Colonial home from scratch. Fully clad in stone, the façade of the main structure features tall double-hung windows flanking the white baluster front porch. It opens to a double-height foyer, with a round chandelier matching the black and white wood of the gently curving staircase. To its left is the dining room, with a six-seater wood table at its center, surrounded by artwork on the gray-blue walls. A series of trimmed openings below the interior balcony leads to the living room, which features a marble-mantel fireplace. It finds its counterpart in the traditional white wood fireplace that warms the family room, which leads to the stone patio in the backyard through French doors. The six-bed-seven-bath home also includes a fully operational dentist’s office.

The Grasso family has been serving Westchester for three generations and over fifty years. Grasso Development Group was established in 2002, with Tony and Jeff Grasso at the helm, working hands-on to create homes their own families would be proud to live in.

Dawkins Development Group Inc.

206 Ferris Avenue, White Plains, NY 10603

A marble waterfall-edge center island blends the hues of the gray wall and glossy white cabinetry in this Rye Brook kitchen remodel by Dawkins Development Group. The motif complements the stainless steel finish of the ovens, fridge, range, and hood, as well as the undermount sink along the black quartz-top prep spaces. Pops of color appear in the bright yellow bar stool eat-in space atop the wood flooring. A broad window opens up the space on the left-hand side, with pendant and recessed lights illuminating it at night. Next to the kitchen space, a wood and cable-railed staircase leads to the loft area, where a lounge sits at the upstairs landing.

Daniel Salem Dawkins II has over two decades of construction experience, starting out in North Carolina and Georgia. He started his firm in 1999, moving back to his home state of New York in 2007 following two brownstone renovations in Brooklyn. The company has since provided new construction, restorations, and remodels for homeowners throughout Westchester and nearby counties. Murphy Brothers Contracting

416 Waverly Avenue, Mamaroneck, NY 10543

A green front lawn lines the gravel driveway that leads up to this sprawling home in Scarsdale. Grecian pillars frame the double-height main entry, which opens to a glass-chandeliered grand foyer. A wood-railed carpeted staircase curves up to the second floor, while wide arches lead to the first-floor spaces. The living room features two sitting areas warmed by a marble fireplace. A home bar sits off the side of the coffered ceiling dining room. More eat-in space lines one of two gray rustic marble-top center islands in the white kitchen. A stone-clad fireplace and TV wall anchors the wood-beamed family room. The vaulted ceiling master bed and bath are spacious, with skylights illuminating their white interior. A double vanity lines an alcove in the wall across from the freestanding tub. A window wall opens to the expansive backyard, where a trellis gives the outdoor grill and lounge area some shade.

The home was renovated by Murphy Brothers Contracting, a firm that has been serving the greater Westchester for over four decades. President Chris Murphy and Vice President Sean Murphy lead the team and deliver outstanding results for projects large and small. The firm has earned multiple Home Building Industry (HOBI) and American Institute of Architects (AIA) awards through the years.
