Demand for rental living has been rising in the U.S., and thus the demand for multifamily housing has also been increasing. According to the National Multifamily Housing Council, 4.6 million new apartments will need to be built by 2030 to accommodate rising demand. Since most multifamily properties are located in or near big cities, multifamily living attracts buyers who work in the city or enjoy the attractions that these metropolises offer. And as apartment home ownership becomes more popular, multifamily amenities and features continuously are evolving to attract more buyers. All of these variables are making multifamily construction increasingly challenging.

We searched hundreds of contractors to come up with this list of the best contractors who specialize in building multifamily residences near you, across the country. These builders were chosen and ranked based on the awards and recognition they received, their affiliations, the high-profile clientele they have served, and the notable projects they have completed. Some of these builders have built the most popular buildings and infrastructures found in their service areas. These builders are also among the highest-ranking American multifamily sector contractor and construction management firms, as reported in the 2017 Giants 300 Report.

If you are thinking about doing a construction project we recommend checking each builder’s license with the local licensing board, speaking to past clients, and using our bidding system to get competitive quotes from at least 3 contractors. Getting multiple bids is the best way to ensure you get a fair price and that bids include the complete scope of work.
