The firm has been in business since 1973 and operates out of its offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Sacramento. Founded by one of its namesakes in the early 1970s, the firm first started out as a company with the goal of building awareness of the importance of landmark preservation. Now, the company has become known as a design and planning group. It is also noted for its cultural resources planning and excellent preservation technology. 

The firm’s work has been featured in a variety of publications. These include CA Modernist and Traditional Building Magazine. The photo above best depicts the firm’s work for the Ferry Building. It spans over 240,000 square feet and won the firm the San Francisco Design Award from the prestigious American Institute of Architects (AIA), as well as the National Preservation Honor Award. Kuchman Architects

These include grocery stores and senior housing. The firm is composed of a talented team of experienced and licensed professionals, which entails civil and structural engineers, landscape architects, interior designers, and environmental consultants. The project below is an excellent example of the firm’s best projects.

Completed in Los Banos, this project was done for the College Plaza Shopping Center. All in all, it spans nearly 60,000 square feet and one story. It features a great California Mission Revival style and was one of the first major complexes to reflect a new theme in adherence to the guidelines established by the City of Los Banos.  


Mogavero Architects

This space was completed for Starbucks and is only one of the firm’s various projects. For this project, the firm’s team worked on the complete transformation of an existing copy center located in a 75-year-old building. It spans 1,300 square feet and features large-format tile floors and reclaimed wood walls and ceilings. 


Comstock Johnson Architects

The project below was completed for the Rivercats Independence Field. 

This field features a fully accessible little league-sized baseball field and is the only one of its kind in the Western United States. It is composed of a composite sports surface system and various facilities. 


macaulay + architects

Founded in 2000, macaulay + architects operates out of its office in Sacramento and was established by its namesake, Laura Macauley. It is affiliated with both the AIA and the IIDA and offers its clients a complete range of architecture and interior design services. The firm specializes in both commercial and residential projects and takes great pride in being one of the first firms in the area to design a car dealership located inside a mall. Its portfolio depicts an extensive range of retail, hospitality, shopping centers, offices, and municipal work. The coffee shop below is an example of the firm’s work.

Completed for Insight Coffee Roasters, this project is an all-new coffee house. It was designed in an urban and contemporary style. For this project, the firm converted an old shoe store incorporating wood, metal, and brick accents along with a concrete floor.
