A suburb of Los Angeles, the city of Los Alamitos retains a small-town ambiance. It’s a good place to settle down for young professionals and families with school-aged children.

If you are looking to move here or are already a resident needing work done on your home, here is a list of the best general contractors in Los Alamitos who can help you. The list includes homegrown firms from the Greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas who have been building here for at least 15 years.

MSZ Construction

10650 Reagan St. Los Alamitos, CA 90720

This classic white kitchen is easy on the eyes and fits well with the understated elegance of the rest of the home. Wainscoting appears on the cabinets and center island, just as it does in the pillars throughout the semi-open layout common spaces. Stainless steel fixtures blend in well with this theme. There’s some space to dine on bar stools along the white countertop island and a butler’s pantry sits towards the left through a trimmed opening. The space is airy and illuminated by drop and recessed lights along with broad windows on the walls.

The space was remodeled by MSZ Construction. Michael Zabala leads the firm that has been serving Orange County out of Los Alamitos since 2005. The team brings over 20 years of experience to residential construction and delivers high-quality work and exceptional customer service to every project.

KneppKraft Construction

12340 Seal Beach Blvd. Suite B-276, Seal Beach, CA 90740

KneppKraft Construction remodeled this U-shaped kitchen with dark wood cabinets beneath a white coffered ceiling. White quartz countertops also line the prep spaces around the farmhouse sink and stainless steel appliances. Recessed lights illuminate the space, which forms a semi-open layout with the other common areas. The living room sits at one end with warm orange and brown tones. Behind the eat-in space on the kitchen bar is the round table dining set. Broad windows light up the space and a pair of glass doors leads outside.

What began as a yacht repair company in 1985 has grown into a general building, general engineering, and consulting construction firm serving Greater Los Angeles and Orange County. Founder J Knepper continues to lead the firm, which handles both residential and commercial projects. KneppKraft has had a lot of experience with restoration work after responding to earthquakes and other natural disasters in California.

7 Point Construction

201 Covina Ave. STE #4, Long Beach, CA 90803

This mid-century modern Long Beach home was remodeled with clean lines throughout the structure while maintaining a sense of place for each space. Neutral palettes in the common spaces highlight the artwork on the walls. White furniture in the living room centers the concrete slab fireplace. Behind it, gray cushioned chairs line the dining space, which leads to the kitchen through a trimmed opening. White quartz counters top the wooden cabinets in the galley layout, with more space to dine behind the peninsula bar. Broad windows and glass walls illuminate these spaces while framing views of the lush landscaping outside. Another trimmed opening leads to the spacious home office. Elegant black wooden shelves line the walls, framing a picture window behind the desk. The bedrooms and bathrooms carry on the neutral theme, as does the family room. A lap pool sits beneath coffered shiplap ceilings and is surrounded by more greenery.

The home was remodeled by 7 Point Construction. President and CEO Josh Espinoza leads this firm and it’s been serving Southern California for over 15 years.

OC Builders Group

600 W Santa Ana Blvd. Ste 114A-499, Santa Ana, CA 92701

OC Builders Group brightened up this home on Long Beach with modern updates to the common spaces, as well as both the master and guest bathrooms. A white brick fireplace anchors the living room. A light wood mantel hangs above it, with matching shelves mounted to the side against the shiplap walls. Spotlights illuminate the prep spaces beneath the white cupboards in the kitchen. The center island houses the range and the stainless steel hood hangs above it, matching the rest of the appliances. A four-seater dining set sits in a shiplap-walled alcove behind the living room. Broad windows further open up this shared space. The master bedroom features a white-tiled glass barn door tub-shower, while gray-tiled walls, and a green hex tile flooring lines the glass-encased alcove shower in the guest bathroom.

Even Vahab brings many years of experience with other firms in the area to OC Builders. He established the firm in 2004 and has since built and remodeled homes for clients across Orange County. The homeowners the firm has provided work for have repeatedly expressed their appreciation for the professionalism each project manager brings to their work from start to finish.

MTR Construction

10842 Noel St. Suite 111, Los Alamitos, CA 90720

With repeat features on HGTV’s “Christina on the Coast,” MTR Construction has flipped many timeworn properties in Los Angeles and Orange County into high-end spaces that match the homeowners’ lifestyles. This kitchen in Long Beach received a makeover to fit in with the rest of the Mid-Century Modern home. White quartz counters line the wooden cabinetry, giving the galley layout a bright and warm atmosphere. The peninsula bar at the end doubles as an eat-in space. Behind it, more space to dine appears in the form of a four-seater round-table dining set. Sliding doors open to the outdoor areas, further illuminating the space, and the textured wall behind the prep space gives the room a touch of Hollywood glam.

Michael Rose started the Los Alamitos-based firm in 2007 after gaining hands-on experience with other California firms. He started as a laborer and went all the way to project manager in the course of three years. He went on to earn specialty licenses for concrete and electrical work. The firm has since provided residential renovation services and built luxury custom homes up and down the West Coast.

BEST Techs Contracting

12534 Valley View St. Garden Grove, CA 92845

The waterfall-edge center island is a key update to this Los Alamitos kitchen. The wood beams BEST Techs Contracting added to the ceilings also make this revamped open floor plan more cohesive. Deep brown wood cabinets match the ceiling beams in the kitchen and dining areas and are complemented by white cabinetry around the range. The stainless steel fixtures blend in with the motif as well.

Building Science Professionals Jason and Penny Scheurer have led the team since 1989. In 2006, they started incorporating Net Zero Energy Building into their work, pioneering the green building standard in Orange County. They have since built homes with an energy savings guarantee and have expanded to implementing Passive House Standards as well. Jason serves as a board member of Passive House California (PHCA) and was also previously a member of the US Green Building Council Orange County Homes Committee.
