Located near the Pacific Ocean, Camarillo is one of California’s top tourist destinations. It has stunning beaches and its excellent location is only a few hours drive from Hollywood. Skiing and surfing are some of the summer and winter outdoor activities that can be done in the area. On top of this, the town has the largest premium outlet center in California.

Our editors decided to pool five of the most outstanding commercial architects in Camarillo. These architects have impressive portfolios and citations from various award-giving bodies. Included in their portfolio are stunning designs for commercial facilities in Camarillo.

One of the firm’s impressive projects is Sierra Hall at California State University, Channel Islands, in Camarillo. An undergraduate science building on the historic California Mission and Spanish Revival-style campus, the project is organized around an elevated rooftop courtyard. Its north wing contains interdisciplinary damp labs that can interchangeably accommodate geology, earth sciences, archaeology, and anthropology, supporting growth in any one discipline, or emergent disciplines. The upper floor, containing psychology classrooms, is built with similar infrastructure to enable future conversion to damp laboratories if needed. The south wing contains interdisciplinary dry labs supporting physics and computer sciences. Other program elements include group study rooms, faculty/student tutorial areas, and drop-in student workstations opening onto a demonstration garden. It exceeds California energy requirements by using chilled beams, LED lighting, and natural ventilation, and was designed to achieve LEED Gold sustainability certification. The building won an ENR California Best Project award in the Education category.
