First founded in 1937, Hensel Phelps is an award-winning firm that provides an outstanding range of services. It is composed of a team of hard-working professionals who have enabled the company to grow into the world-class firm it is today. The firm adheres to the highest standards and is currently overseen by its Chief Executive Officer, Michael Coutka. He has been with the firm since 1991 and first started out as a field engineer. Showcased above is one of the firm’s best projects. Completed in Boca Raton, Florida, the project was finished in a span of just 16 months. It spans roughly 220,000 square feet and features seven stories. All in all, its office space takes up 106,000 square feet. There is also a three-level garage, various administrative offices, executive suites, a kitchen space, and training rooms. 

Matt Construction

Matt Construction is a family- and employee-owned general contracting firm that extends its services throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Barabara, and the greater Bay area. It takes great pride in having been consistently named among California’s top commercial general contractors. Having been in business for decades, Matt Construction has built relationships with some of the area’s best and leading subcontractors. These partnerships have resulted in various great projects and spaces that have won the firm plenty of acclaim over the years.  Some of these distinctions include accolades from the prestigious American Institute of Architects (AIA). The project above shows the company’s work on the Walt Disney Concert Hall Founder’s Room. Located in Los Angeles, this project spans 4,800 square feet. It features a signature Frank Gehry sculpted plaster ceiling that opens up to a magnificent skylight. It also includes extensive custom lighting and millwork and a secluded dining patio lined with travertine stone. 

R.D. Olson Construction

R.D. Olson Construction extends its services throughout Orange County and is a national general contracting and construction management firm. It takes inspiration from over four decades of industry experience and since its inception, has worked on countless hotel, resort, multi-unit housing, country club, retail, and restaurant construction projects. As a result, the firm has established an excellent clientele list for itself. Some of its most noteworthy clients include Marriott, Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group, Starwood Lodging, UDR, and Affirmed Housing Group. The firm was founded in 1979 by Robert Olson. Since then, the company has grown into a company staffed by a team of experienced and successful professionals. Together, they have secured R.D. The photo above shows one of the firm’s many projects for Sears. To this day, R.D. continues to work on Sears’ nationwide renovation campaign. It has completed several of its outlets in locations from Salt Lake City to Maui. The firm takes the time to tailor its services for each management team that oversees each project.  

J-Squared Construction

PR also provides superior facility maintenance services 24/7. It also has its own logistical customer warehouse that spans 11,000 square feet.

Located in Pasadena, the project featured here was completed for Great Maple. It was completed back in 2018 and showcases excellent art deco elements coupled with transitional touches. Our editorial team was impressed by its large, elliptical bar. 

Bullseye Builders

Bullseye Builders assists its clients throughout the entire process, from start to finish. It serves Southern and Central California and is well known for its innovative and unique approaches to otherwise complex and challenging spaces. The firm achieves its consistent success through the use of state-of-the-art software. That technology allows the team to monitor scheduling and quality control throughout the entire process. This method also enables open communication with clients and subcontractors. Through its custom web-based project management application, clients can stay informed of the project’s progress, schedule walk-throughs, and receive updates regarding any changes that may arise. 

Spanning 7,376 square feet, the featured project is located in West Hollywood and was completed in collaboration with Architectura. It includes the work on an all-new retail showroom and was accomplished within a $500k budget. The client, Poliform, is a leading company in the furniture industry. The firm worked on the demolition of its showroom’s existing interiors to come up with better spaces that will better show off Poliform’s latest products. The showroom now has new flooring, custom Italian millwork, and excellent custom lighting fixtures from Belgium.  

Matrix Retail Construction

Matrix Retail Construction was founded in 1989 in Las Vegas and has now opened an office in Irvine. The firm provides its services throughout Northern and Southern California, with some of its best work found in Orange, San Diego, and Los Angeles. The firm specializes in commercial-retail tenant improvements, retail center renovations, ground-up construction of both commercial and retail projects, and building maintenance programs. Since its establishment, Matrix has worked on a stellar four million square feet of combined project space. It has also taken on work for numerous household brands in the retail, restaurant, and commercial markets. Some of these include Panda Express, Puma, bebe, and Jonathan Adler. 

The firm is known for its excellent command of the design-build process, as well as its value engineering, permit processing, and scheduling. Its projects and spaces are distinguished by their millwork and their fixtures. The project above showcases the company’s work for Swarovski. Located in the Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego, this project features a contemporary design with excellent silver finishes.
